Intense Sunset
This is a custom-made artwork for a client. A reference photo was provided at the start of the project and the artwork took 3 weeks to be created.
Week 1:
Started by priming the canvas, allowed the canvas to rest overnight. Began painting the top half of the canvas starting with the darker colors first and then progressively adding highlights. Added the blue areas first, mixed some crimson and blended in order to get the soft purple areas and continued with the darker red/pink areas. Blended everything to soften the sky.
Week 2:
Started the bottom half of the painting. Started with pure orange and progressively added blue, crimson, yellow, Indian yellow and Titanium white. Added dark areas in order to break up the monotony. Blended the sky with a dry brush. Occasionally dipped the brush in some dry white in order to soften the sky further.
Painted the house on the right hand side as well as the bushes in the bottom of the painting. Finally, carefully added the twigs at the left hand side of the painting and left the painting to dry.
Week 3:
Added more highlights in areas needed, highlighted the bushes and re-painted two of the branches.
Week 4:
Varnished the painting and sold to the client.
